We finally had a break in the weather, and took off on a sales trip through southern Virginia and the Carolinas. Thankfully, we've landed several contracts and are starting off the year with a bang. First up is the Lewis Ginter Recreation Association. They're located in a beautiful old neighborhood in Richmond. Then a couple of jobs in the Outer Banks. Really wish it was warmer! We start as soon as it's over 45 degrees.

Well, our Christmas Vacation is over. In the Pool Business, there is a general shutdown in the coldest winter months: nobody's thinking about a pool then. And this winter we were lucky enough to see some real snow (that's G's front yard in the picture).
We here at Blue Dolphin take our time and enjoy our holidays... but come January 2nd (or maybe January 3rd, depending) we get going on this year's ad campaigns, mailings, SEM marketing, etc. This behind the scenes work is necessary, and keeps our minds off the cold.
In the meantime, we've been working on the new office/warehouse building, a project car (Andrew), landing that buck (Zach), a music recital (Johnny), and an upcoming birthday (Danny). Not to mention that granddaughter Nicole cut her first tooth, and granddaughter Margaret was the hit of the Christmas party!
We've missed all our customers this winter and are looking forward to seeing you this spring.
We'll be in touch about your pool opening sometime around March 1st! Take Care-

The White Tail job is done! Here are some shots (kindly provided by the White Tail staff) of our crew working on the resurfacing.

Concrete Day at White Tail. The staff there pitched in to help.

Jorge Alcantara, our Construction foreman, has been with us for 11 years. He and Mark Robinson, owner of Blue Dolphin, scree the concrete after the pour.

The pool ready for fiberglass.

Resin going on the walls.

Another shot of the resin application.

Our crew at White Tail included Rudy Calderon, old friend Ricky Dennison, and Mark's brother, Rick Robinson, owner of American Pools Resurfacing, our sister company in New York.

Sheets of fiberglass mat being applied to the pool walls.

Resin and fiberglass continue to be applied to the pool in increments.

Tile going on. This is one of the final steps.

The finished pool. The resort opted for a blue pigment in their final coat of resin.

Our first visitors to the display pool area drove down from McConnellsburg, PA last weekend. Dr. Johnston and family took a look at the pool being put in, and at a paver deck job we're working on down the street. We spent a pleasant hour or two with these nice folks, and will be travelling to their home in October to see about resurfacing their pool.

We’ve been awarded the contract for the White Tail Resort in Ivor, Virginia. Start date is 9/21/09! We’re happy to have the contract and look forward to working with the resort. There are many pictures to post, however, we’ve had some camera issues lately. Our nine-year-old digital camera finally gave up the ghost, so I hope you’ll be satisfied with these pics from two weeks ago. When I get the memory card unloaded, I’ll put up all the new pics from the display pool. Look for them tomorrow!

Work on the display pool continues; the Sheer Descent Waterfall is now in place, the pad for the Turbo Twister slide has been poured and the slide is assembled and in place. Plumbing for the dolphin medallions has been integrated, and the bond coat of resin is on the pool.
We’ve entered our busy Pool Closing Season, so things are jumping here. We still have slots for October, so give us a call at 800-608-4100 if you would like to schedule a pool closing. If you schedule your closing and next spring’s opening together, you’ll save $100! Get more information at bluedolphinpools.com.
Thank you for visiting us, and come back again soon!

Here are some pictures from concrete day. Some of the work that occurs when a new pool is under construction is sent out to subcontractors. We've known all of our subcontractors for years and have worked with them extensively.
The concrete goes on the walls first, and is smoothed down as it is poured. Then the floor is poured and smoothed.

The new Blue Dolphin Building
The plans have been approved and the final papers signed, and Blue Dolphin has decided on this building for our new storage facility and office space. We hope to break ground on the project within a month or two. Work also continued on the display pool today as the crew power washed the pool walls, then ground down the concrete and acid washed the pool surfaces. The initial bond coat will go on the walls tomorrow.
